Quick Summary

  • Halo is easy to assemble and has three possible applications.
  • You can purchase it from Happy Habitats’ website.

Features & Accessories of Halo From Happy Habitats

I spent ages looking for the best exercise ball for my hamsters and gerbils before I stumbled upon Happy Habitat’s announcement for their new pet item.

So, what are its main features?

Happy Habitats’ Halo product consists of two parts – a white roam ball with ventilation holes and an orange carrier with a handle and magnetic stand.

Roam Ball 3

Since Happy Habitats designs its products with animal wellness and comfort in mind, the Halo is perfect for outdoor and indoor use because of its two-step locking mechanism.

And unlike some cheap exercise balls, Halo is screwed together, so it won’t open if you accidentally drop it on the floor or if your pet hits an obstacle.

But the three-in-one design impressed me most because you can use Halo as an exercise ball, a portable stand, or a carrier cage when you have to take the pet to the vet.

So, it’s a great way to spend more time with my hamster and gerbil or interact with them without worrying about escape attempts.

Moreover, you can choose a bundle option, which comes with delicious pet treats, stickers to personalize your pet’s carrier, and a cute pin to wear.

But how does Halo work? Let’s find out.

How Halo Works

Halo is an easy-to-use item – you just have to snap the roam ball inside the patent-pending orange carrier. Then you open the roam ball’s lid to put your hamster/gerbil/pet inside.

Once you’ve assembled the roaming ball/carrier, you’re ready to take your small pet for a walk around the neighborhood, thanks to the convenient carry handle.

However, you can choose not to use the carrier part and let your hamster exercise inside the roam ball. Just don’t forget to keep an eye on it to ensure your pet doesn’t get hurt.

I prefer to put the ball inside the carrier and place it within my sight so that my pet can exercise adequately without me worrying about injuries or escape attempts.

And as experts from PetMD say,

“A gradual introduction to the ball is recommended, so your hamster has enough time to explore and become accustomed to the ball.” (1)

And now, let’s talk about Happy Habitats’ benefits and drawbacks.

Pros and Cons of Halo From Happy Habitats

Halo performed as well as I expected – it was easy to put it together, and my pet didn’t make much fuss when I took it for a walk.

And I was surprised to learn that it won “Best In Show” in the New Product Showcase for the small animal category at the 2021 SuperZoo Expo.

Benefits of Halo Pet Carrier

  • The ball snaps into the carrier frame, so there are no zippers or mesh material that your pet can chew through and escape.
  • It’s made from quality material and won’t shatter upon impact.
  • I love the two-step locking mechanism, which is perfect for escape artists.
  • The ball has 2mm ventilation holes. I like that the holes are big enough to provide adequate ventilation but not big enough to trap my pet’s paws.
  • The bundled model can be an excellent gift option for pet owners.
  • It has a lightweight & portable design for travel with easy, tool-free assembly.
  • The magnetic kick-out stand is convenient and doesn’t get in the way when you’re not using it.
  • You can return the product within 30 days if you’re not satisfied with it. But make sure to check Happy Habitats’ returnable item policy.
  • You can contact customer support if you have any questions about the product.

Drawbacks of Halo Pet Carrier

  • The biggest drawback of the Halo pet carrier is that it’s more expensive than standard exercise balls and small pet carriers.
  • It’s available only in bright orange color.
  • Happy Habitats is relatively new, has only a few item models available on its website, and doesn’t offer international shipping.

And now, let’s talk about where you can purchase this innovative exercise ball & carrier combo.

Where to Buy the Halo Carrier?

Currently, you can purchase the Halo carrier from Happy Habitat’s website for $49.95.

The manufacturer specifies a delivery time frame of 3-5 business days once the order has shipped (usually within 3-5 days). But there’s no expedited or international shipping.

Moreover, you’ll have to pay a shipping and handling fee. Customers from New York and Arizona will also have to pay a sale tax.

FAQs

1. Is It Ok To Put Hamster in a Ball?

Some experts don’t recommend putting hamsters in a ball because they get stressed. But you can do it as long as the ball is big enough to avoid injuries and your hamster isn’t showing signs of stress. (2)

2. How Long Can Hamsters Be in a Ball?

If your hamster isn’t used to exercise balls, keep the sessions short – a couple of minutes. Once your pet is more comfortable, you can increase the duration to 20-30 minutes.

3. Should I Let My Hamster Walk Around?

You can let your hamster walk around if you have escape-proofed the room. But don’t put a leash on your pet.

Final Thoughts on the Halo from Happy Habitats

The Happy Habitats’ Halo carrier is an excellent way to exercise your hamster/gerbil/small pet and transport it without worrying about escape attempts.

However, ensure that the roaming ball is big enough for your pet, especially if you have a Syrian hamster.
