Top 3 50-Gallon Tanks for Bearded Dragon

Before I show you my picks, let’s talk about whether 50 gallons is the right size. Beardies can grow up to 24 inches in length, so they need plenty of space to move and explore their terrarium.

A small cage will do more harm than good. And vets from PetMD say, “an enclosure should be at least three times the beardie’s snout-to-tail length.” (1)

So, a 50-gallon is a perfect choice for juvenile or baby bearded dragons, but adult-size lizards need larger tanks (at least 55 gallons, but a 75 or 120 gallon terrarium is preferred)

But what are the best 50-gallon tanks for bearded lizards? Here are my top three recommendations!

#1 Best Overall: Repti Zoo’s 50 Gallon Tempered Glass Reptile Large Terrarium

REPTI ZOO 50 Gallon Tempered Glass Reptile Large Terrarium Tank with Black PVC Back Panel Reptile Terrarium 36

Reptizoo is one of my favorite shops because it offers a wide range of bearded dragon tank sizes and supplies.

I love their 50-gallon glass bearded dragon cage because it installs quickly, thanks to the unique folding design, and allows easy access for changing the substrate or decorating.

A 50-gallon glass tank with detachable front doors for easy access, one-hand opening locks, blacked-out PVC back, and elevated leg design.

This glass terrarium has a removable top mesh panel for proper ventilation and exit slots to place heat cables for UVB light bulbs.

I also like it’s designed to minimize humidity and has excellent features such as a water-tight base and blackout back to reduce stress.

Benefits of Repti Zoo’s Glass

It’s easy to choose the best 50-gallon tank for your bearded lizard as long as you keep a few things in mind.

#1 Material

Pick a high-quality glass terrarium for your bearded dragon. Plain glass is better if you plan to drill holes for cables; otherwise, you should go with tempered glass.

Check out our list of the best bearded dragon terrarium.

#2 Basic Features

All reptile enclosures have similar features – mesh screens, front-hinged doors, elevated leg design, etc. But some come with better locking mechanisms and extras.

#3 Price

It’s better to pay a bit more for a high-quality glass enclosure than to search for a replacement tank if yours breaks suddenly. And in the long run, investing in a quality terrarium will be cheaper.

FAQs

1. Is a 50-Gallon Tank OK For a Bearded Dragon?

A 50-gallon tank is suitable for juvenile bearded dragons but can be too small for adult beardies. 75 to 120- gallon terrarium is the perfect size for adults, while a 20 or 40-gallon tank is good for baby dragons.

2. How Many Bearded Dragons Can Live in a 55-Gallon Tank?

You can keep one beardie in a 55-gallon tank. Bearded lizards aren’t social creatures and do better in separate tanks.

3. What Is the Biggest Tank a Bearded Dragon Needs?

The biggest tank for a bearded dragon is 120 gallons. Most beardies don’t grow more than 24 inches in length, so 120 gallons is adequate space.

4. Can I Use a 55-Gallon Fish Tank For a Bearded Dragon?

A 55-gallon fish tank can be a temporal enclosure option until you get an appropriately-sized tank for your adult lizard.

Conclusion

A 50-gallon tank is preferable for a juvenile or baby beardie, but it can be too small for some adult lizards. And sometimes, getting a bigger terrarium from the start is better to save money.

But if 50 gallons is the right size tank for you, I recommend Repti Zoo’s large glass terrarium because it assembles quickly and is made from high-quality material.

And don’t forget to check these 75 gallon front-opening tanks, perfect for adult bearded dragons!
